The holiday season often brings a spirit of giving, but this year, the San Diego / Imperial Network of California's Credit Unions, known as The League, turned that spirit into action. Through their "Jingle & Mingle" Holiday Toy and Clothing Drive, they united to bring joy and comfort to children in need. This story highlights how a community movement, supported by North Island Credit Union in San Diego, made a tangible difference for about 100 children connected to Rady's Hospital and Olive Crest organizations.

Coming Together as a Credit Union Movement
The San Diego / Imperial Network represents a strong network of credit unions across San Diego and Imperial counties. Each year, members of this network look for ways to support their communities beyond financial services. This year, the focus was on children facing hardships during the holidays. The "Jingle & Mingle" event was more than a fundraiser; it was a gathering of hearts and hands dedicated to making a difference.
North Island Credit Union stepped forward as the event sponsor, providing not only resources but also a welcoming space for the drive. Their involvement helped amplify the reach and impact of the campaign, encouraging other credit unions in the network to participate actively.
Supporting Rady Children's Hospital and Olive Crest
Two organizations were chosen as beneficiaries: Rady's Children’s Hospital and Olive Crest. Both serve vulnerable children, but in different ways. Rady’s Hospital provides critical medical care to young patients, many of whom spend the holidays in treatment. Olive Crest focuses on protecting children from abuse and neglect, offering safe homes and support.
By collecting toys and clothing, The League aimed to brighten the holidays for children who might otherwise go without. The donations included warm jackets, sweaters, pajamas, and a variety of toys suitable for different ages. These gifts brought smiles and comfort to children facing challenges that no child should endure.

How the Drive Worked
The "Jingle & Mingle" event was designed to be inclusive and easy to participate in. Credit unions across the network set up a collection point at Harlan Brewing in Scripps Ranch, encouraging staff, network "friends" and members to donate new toys and clothing. The event also featured a festive gathering where participants could share stories, enjoy holiday treats, and celebrate the spirit of giving.
Volunteers sorted and wrapped the donations, ensuring each child would receive a thoughtful package. The process was organized to respect safety and health guidelines, allowing everyone to contribute with confidence.

Impact on the Community
Thanks to the collective effort, about 100 children received gifts this holiday season. For many families, these donations meant more than just presents—they represented hope, care, and a reminder that their community stands with them.
The event also strengthened bonds within the credit union network. Staff members found renewed purpose in their work, seeing firsthand how their efforts extended beyond banking to real human connections.
Looking Ahead: Continuing the Tradition
The success of the "Jingle & Mingle" Holiday Toy and Clothing Drive sets a strong example for future initiatives. The Network plans to build on this momentum, exploring new ways to support local children and families throughout the year.
Credit unions are uniquely positioned to foster community connections, and events like this show how financial institutions can play a vital role in social well-being.
